The return of the Sussex. John Bird (below) talks about his father, Ralph Bird, and his restoration of the Sussex. The gig is now back in Scilly and holds the record for the fastest Scilly to Cornwall row. Hear the audio by clicking the link below the picture of The Sussex on Porthmellon Beach.

St Mary's Gig Builder Peter Martin prepares a new gig for the Dutch in his shed in March 2009. You can hear the Dutch team react to their new gig on the 2009 gig coverage page.
Tresco and Bryher gig club receive a £1000 grant from the Radio Scilly's Scilly Lottery for their appeal to build a new gig shed. They received £500 from an energy drink in July 09, too!
In Autumn 2008, the Czar crew rowed from Tresco to Penzance and back. In 1968,rowers also made the first part of the crossing. This time the Children's Hospice South West appeal and their shed appeal was helped through sponsorship cash.
