Four candidates have put themselves forward for Scilly's Council by-election next month. Former Councillors Andrew Combes and Steve Whomersley will compete with Tim Dean and Jeanette Ware for a single seat. 

The Government Minister for School Standards has praised Five Islands Academy for its 2018 English Baccalaureate results. Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP wrote to the Head of Academy Jo Yeates to offer his congratulations to staff and pupils for their high level of entry and achievement in the subjects.
