A small fire broke out on the Lyonesse Lady on Saturday morning after a low-pressure fuel pipe failed.

In a statement released by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group (ISSG) the group said: "This unfortunately meant we had to suspend our usual freight operation during the weekend and yesterday, Monday 21st May. We have cleared all of the backlog of freight from Saturday’s sailing thanks to the hard work of the Quay staff and boat crews.

"After investigation the fire was caused by a failed low-pressure fuel pipe. We are now waiting to accept delivery of a part and anticipate that this will be replaced on Wednesday (tomrrow) 23rd May."

During this time, the ISSG will be running a limited service ensuring chilled, frozen and perishable goods are delivered, using the Swift Lady and other resources.

The ISSG have also asked customers with big and bulky items, to contact St Mary’s or Penzance freight office to hold/cancel your items until they can ship off island.

For all freight enquiries please call: St Mary’s Quay: 01720 424230 or Penzance Freight Office:  01736 334236.

The ISSG added: "We appreciate your patience and understanding whilst we get the Lyonesse back into service. As soon as we know she will be back in service, we will provide a further update. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Nobody was injured in the fire and we'll have more on the Lyonesse Lady in this week's Harbour Report on Thursday morning.
