Professional football coaches from Plymouth Argyle Football Club will visit the islands next weekend and will be teaming up with the Five Islands Football Club to coach their young players.

There will be two full-day coaching sessions for all children aged 5 years and over next Saturday, 19th August and Sunday, 20th August at the Five Islands School Field. The sessions start at 9:30am in the morning and are expected to finish around 3pm.

The Five Islands Football Club is currently short of adult coaches and volunteers to help with weekly running of the club. The coaches from Plymouth Argyle will be putting on a two-hour coaching session which is free for all adults next Friday, 18th August from 5pm until 7pm on the Five Islands School Field.

Alison Stedeford who helps run the club spoke to Will this week and said: "It's for anyone, for any existing coaches to learn anymore skills and techniques for teaching. It's also for any parents who simply want to pick up some ideas for kicking a ball around with their children."

We are absolutely desperate to recruit some new coaches. We are working on the absolute minimum number of coaches this season and unfortunately if some coaches can't make it on some weeks it could mean sessions get cancelled."

Alison added: "It doesn't have to be a weekly commitment to every Saturday, if anybody can just help out now or then or we could look at a rota system. No football or coaching experience is required, they just need to have enthusiasm, and patience for working with the children and turn up on Friday."

It costs a lot to bring over the coaches from the mainland and the training sessions have been throughly enjoyable and beneficial to children of the Five Islands Football Club over the years.

If you take part in the Scilly Lottery you've helped make this trip possible. Radio Scilly recently awarded some money to the Five Islands Football Club to help make this trip possible, so thank you for your help in making this trip possible.

Even though we were able to part fund the trip there is still a charge for the children's coaching sessions. It cost £20 for members of the Five Islands Football Club, £15 for siblings of club members and £30 to non-members and visitors. Registration and payment will be taken on the morning of the Saturday 19th August.
