This year's St Martin's Fete is looking like it's going to be another highlight of the summer in Scilly, and takes place this Sunday, 20th August.
There will be lots and lots going on this year at the famous local Fete which will take place on Pool Green as usual.
Activities include a Fire-Brigade obstacle course for kids, dry land Gig races, a fancy dress photo booth, bouncy castle as well as all the usual stalls and traditional events.
As far as food goes there will be a wide selection including curries, pulled pork wraps, a BBQ, paella, teas & cakes, sweets, fruit, and of course a bar with wide selection of drinks to wash the food down with.
The St Mary’s lifeboat ‘The Whiteheads’ is planning to be at Highertown quay from 14.30 to 16.30 for tours. Also on the beach will be the St Martin’s Gig crew, inviting people to come out and have a turn on a paddle. Musicians from the Islands will be entertaining with a set in the early afternoon.
Events will continue into the evening at The Seven Stones Pub. Music will be from ‘Southern Comfort’ and the Gig Club will be providing a hog roast with support from the Island Hall with accompaniments and any left-over goodies from the fete stalls.
There will be trips to St Martin's from all the other islands including some evening trips from the local boat services and organisations. These are still to be confirmed.
The fete will be raising money for the Island Hall and the St Mary’s RNLI lifeboat station. If you would like to volunteer or indeed run your own stall please contact Neil Wood at Neil@scillyflowers.co.uk or 01720 422 169.
Will was joined on the phone by Robin Browne from St Martins's to find out more...
