Barclays Bank have commented on the reduction in opening hours to the branch on St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly.

The bank situated in Hugh Street on St Mary's is currently open from 10am - 4pm Mondays and Tuesdays and now closed on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until the 1st of September 2017 according to a notice on the bank's front door.

Michael Watts, Barclays Community Banking Director, said: “We apologise to customers who have been affected by Barclays reduced opening hours on the Isles of Scilly to two days a week, Monday and Tuesday.

This is due to staff illness and the logistics of sourcing replacement cover during the height of the holiday season. We are working to resolve the situation with the aim of providing a fuller service from September.

In the meantime, personal and business customers are able to access everyday banking services at the Post Offices on the Isles of Scilly, including Hugh Street, St Mary’s, which is open every day apart from Sunday. We apologise again for any inconvenience.”

Radio Scilly asked Barclays Bank PLC for an interview on the reduction in hours but they politely declined to comment further at this stage. They did say they would be in touch with any further updates.
