The Scillonian III will mark the 40th anniversary of her first sailing to the Isles of Scilly next week and there are a string of celebrations on the Isles of Scilly and the Mainland to mark the occasion.
A party will be held on board the Scillonian whilst she is berthed in Penzance on May 24th for staff, guests and VIPs, concluding with a firework display over Penzance Harbour at approximately 9.15pm for everyone in the town to enjoy. This will mark 40 years to the day since her first sailing to the Islands. She was launched 40 years ago this week (17th May).
Celebrations will also take place on 21st June on Scilly and details of this event will be released in the near future.
A pop-up exhibition is currently on display showing memorabilia including photographs and souvenirs from the Scillonian III’s 40-year history, and display boards explaining more about the ship. The exhibition will run until the May 24th, and is free for the public to visit.
Will spoke to Rob Goldsmith, Chief Executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company to find out more about the plans to mark the anniversary. Rob also had an update for us on the progress of the Mali Rose and on the new online booking system for Travel Club members.
