Cornish Pirates V London Scottish Preview

By Phil Westren

This Sunday’s home game for the Cornish Pirates – kick-off 2.30pm against London Scottish – clearly has added importance.

With their scheduled game away to London Welsh last Saturday having being cancelled, following certain results of other games that were played during the weekend the Pirates have now dropped to seventh in the league table.

A defeat for the Cornish Pirates on Sunday versus fifth-placed ‘Scottish’ would naturally be a dent to the season’s aspirations, however a win could perhaps see the side make it into the top four – and that, of course, is the ultimate aim for April.

Ahead of this weekend’s game, Coach Gavin Cattle has said:

“Last weekend off means that we will be fresh and prepared, but there is a realisation too that London Scottish can pose a real attacking threat on their day and they also have a dangerous driving maul. It should be an interesting encounter.

“Both teams have come on a lot since our narrow defeat to them away in October (25-24), which was a day when we rued our performance. We started poorly and it was really a game of two halves, and although there was a level of satisfaction that we got back into the game and earned a losing bonus point, it was overall still very frustrating to have under achieved.”

Gavin added:

“With the weather presently experienced, this Sunday’s pivotal business end of the season game will be played in conditions that’ll likely prove a little more difficult than of late. A bit of a battle is inevitable, which makes it extra important for our excellent home support to get behind us, as it really does make a difference.”
