Delighted with their win at Ealing Trailfinders on Christmas Eve, the Cornish Pirates will be keen to end 2016 by recording another victory at home to Nottingham on New Year’s Eve.
The fifth versus sixth encounter kicks off at the earlier than usual time of 1230, when a bumper holiday crowd is expected at the Mennaye Field, Penzance.
The Cornish Pirates make just one change from the squad selected for the visit to Ealing last weekend, with a fit again Jack Andrew replacing Alan Paver on the bench. Also, on Saturday, the game will mark a special occasion for props Tyler Gendall and Marlen Walker, who will both be making their 50th appearance for the club.
Making comment ahead of Saturday’s encounter, Cornish Pirates’ coach Alan Paver said:
“The input and endeavour from the players has been good these past few weeks, culminating in a thoroughly deserved and welcome win away to Ealing last weekend. Importantly, we stuck to task and put our foot down in the second half to eventually achieve the result sought, which provided a terrific feeling".
“Now playing Nottingham at home on Saturday, we fully respect them as another tough and well-coached side. A high energy, physical encounter is on the menu, where we aim to maintain a focus and put our stamp on a rugby match set for supporters to enjoy.”
