Determined to dust themselves off following their defeat in Rotherham against the Titans, the Cornish Pirates are away again on Saturday, as they fly to the Channel Isles to face Jersey Reds (ko 3pm).
This game is a tenth versus fifth clash in Round 8 of the Greene King IPA Championship, with both sides naturally keen to achieve victory. The Pirates, who have lost their last three Championship contests played at St. Peter, will focus on bouncing back from the frustration of defeat against the Titans last Saturday, whilst the Reds, who impressed in scoring four tries away to Yorkshire Carnegie, will be hoping for a win in front of their home crowd.
The Pirates make eight changes from the side that started against the Titans. Three are in the backs with the returns of fly-half Will Cargill, centre Alex Dancer, and wing Alex O’Meara. Paul Andrew, Tom Channon, and Jack Andrew form a fresh front-row unit, whilst Josh Caulfield is named in the second-row and Dan Lee on the blindside flank.
‘Canucks’ Matt Evans and Brett Beukeboom are both presently unavailable for selection, as they are training with Canada ahead of scheduled November international test matches.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s match, Cornish Pirates joint Coach Gavin Cattle has said:
“We have an honest group of players, and in a Championship competition that is just relentless we must dust off the disappointment of defeat last Saturday and crack on again.
“Confident in our game plan, and with the boys we’ve got, we’ll chuck energy into the contest and need to be more accurate in taking our chances.”
The Cornish Pirates full selection is as follows:-
Cornish Pirates: 15 Toby May, 14 Kyle Moyle, 13 Tom Hendrickson, 12 Alex Dancer, 11 Alex O’Meara, 10 Will Cargill, 9 Alex Day; 1 Paul Andrew, 2 Tom Channon, 3 Jack Andrew, 4 Chris Morgan (capt), 5, Josh Caulfield, 6 Dan Lee, 7 Alex Cheesman, 8 Tom Duncan.
Replacements: 16 Rob Elloway, 17 Tyler Gendall, 18 Jake Parker, 19 Sam Simmonds, 20 Mike Pope, 21 Bar Bartlett, 22 Nicolas De Battista.
Will was joined on Friday's Morning Show by joint Coach of the Pirates Alan Paver ahead of tomorrow's clash, which you can hear below.
