Rotherham Titans v Cornish Pirates Preview

By Phil Westren

Following their opening two games played in Pool 3 of the British & Irish Cup, the Cornish Pirates return to Championship action on Saturday, when they travel to Rotherham for a 3pm kick-off.

With the Titans presently ninth in the league table and the Pirates fourth, Cornish Pirates’ joint coach Alan Paver is expecting the usual tough return to the town where he was born, commenting:

“We know it will be tough, as Rotherham is always a tough place to go to. They’ve got some good coaches and players, and we haven’t played a Titans side yet that hasn’t been gritty, so a bit of an arm wrestle is expected.

“The journey itself is also always a challenge, but there are no excuses and we just get on with it. Our aim is simply to travel with confidence and put a performance in on the pitch - if we don’t do that then we won’t deserve to get anything. It’s in our hands as to whether we return home with smiles on our faces.”

The Cornish Pirates have made six changes from the side that started in the Cup against Ospreys Premiership Select last Sunday. Kyle Moyle and Matt Evans return on the wings, Alex Day is named at scrum-half, whilst in the forwards there are starting roles for flanker Jake Parker, lock Brett Beukeboom, and hooker Jack Innard.

The full selection is as follows:

Cornish Pirates:   15 Toby May, 14 Kyle Moyle, 13 Tom Hendrickson, 12 Nicolas Battista, 11 Matt Evans, 10 Laurence May, 9 Alex Day; 1 Marlen Walker, 2 Jack Innard, 3 Tyler Gendall, 4 Chris Morgan (capt), 5 Brett Beukeboom, 6 Jake Parker, 7 Sam Simmonds, 8 Tom Duncan.

Replacements:   16 Tom Channon, 17 Paul Andrew, 18 Jack Andrew, 19 Josh Caulfield, 20 Dan Lee, 21 Stuart Townsend, 22 Will Cargill.
